Two of Australia’s top super-middleweights kept on collision course for a rematch in 2010 when both Anthony Mundine and Daniel Geale won wide points decisions at the Silverdome in Launceston, Tasmania on Wednesday night. Current IBO middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (36-3, 23 KO’s) outpointed Argentinean Alejandro Falliga (17-6-3, 6 KO’s) over ten rounds in a super-middleweight non-title bout. The 34 year old Mundine dominated the bout as Falliga retreated for most of the bout and was caught by the advancing Mundine each round but never in any major trouble. He won on the scorecards 100-90 (twice) and 99-91. Daniel Geale (22-1, 13 KO’s) secured the IBF Pan Pacific Middleweight title with a shut out points win over Brazilian Samir De Santos Barbosa (22-5-3, 17 KO’s) when he won by a score of 120-108 on all three scorecards. Geale boxed impressively behind a stiff jab and was always in control and showed effective boxing. The IBO have mandated that a rematch of the May 2009 match in Brisbane between Geale and Mundine takes place by February 27th 2010 or Mundine will be stripped of the title.
