At the weigh-in on Tuesday for WBA#1 ranked middleweight Anthony Mundine’s fight against fellow Australian and WBA#10 ranked Shannan Taylor, the two time WBA super-middleweight champion Mundine responded to the press conference in Perth from arch rival Danny Green. He stated, “If they pay me what I want I will whip that arse again.” Both fighters scaled just under the middleweight limit of 160 pounds for their WBA International Title fight on Wednesday in Wollongong, New South Wales with the winner due to take on WBA champion Felix Sturm. Mundine is expected to target the middleweight title before taking on Green and confirmed, “I’m a middleweight now and my intention is to become the undisputed middleweight champion. If Green wants to come and have his fight, he would want me to jump from middleweight to light-heavyweight, which is fifteen pounds. I am not saying I wouldn’t do it but the money has got to be right.” It is expected that with Mundine’s links with Golden Boy Promotions that he could take on Kelly Pavlik or Jermain Taylor in the remainder of 2009 before inking to fight Green at the Subiaco Oval in the Australian summer of 2010, when the weather would be suited to a 40,000 outdoor capacity event.
