Former WBA 168 pound champion Anthony Mundine has decided not to retire despite being clearly outpointed by IBF middleweight champion Daniel”Real Deal” Geale on Wednesday in Sydney, NSW, Australia and now has WBA #7 Jarrod”Left Jab” Fletcher in his sights in a bout that could lead to a WBA middleweight title showdown against Gennady Golovkin if he is successful in winning. Steve Dellar, the trainer of Fletcher, is confident his charge can defeat the unpopular aboriginal boxer and knows Mundine can fill up stadiums in Australia like no other Aussie boxer. (The Geale vs Mundine clash attracted 9,000 fans on Wednesday.) Fletcher was a world class amateur and holds a win over IBF #1 super middleweight Adonis Stevenson.
“We’ll fight Mundine in a heartbeat,” said Fletcher’s trainer Steve Deller.”Mundine wants Jarrod’s world rating, but Jarrod would have his left hand in Mundine’s face all night.” Mundine was totally outfought by Geale but has managed to convince his followers otherwise, with celebrities such as Oscar winner Russell Crowe and heavyweight boxer Sonny Bill Williams tweeting there support..
There are several Australian boxing experts who think Fletcher could be the second Aussie boxer to defeat Mundine
Boxing writers at ringside on Wednesday found it difficult to award Mundine more than a few rounds after the one-sided drubbing Geale gave “The Man” in what proved to be a financial success by the promoters.
