Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (40-3, 24 KOs) stopped WBA #8 jr middleweight Ryan Waters (20-3-2, 12 KOs) in round ten at the Entertainment Center, Wollongong, NSW, Australia on Wednesday. Referee Will Soulos saved Waters from further punishment at :24 of the tenth. Mundine was cut in round four from an accidental head clash. Waters was warned in round seven for an attempted head butt.
Mundine’s trainer Jeff Malcolm was happy with his boxer’s performance. “Choc (Mundine) had to dig deep tonight,” Malcolm said. “Although he was always in control Choc had to open up to keep the aggressive Waters off him. We knew it was only a matter of time before Choc got him. Anthony had to work hard but we were happy with his performance.”
