Australian based Namibian middleweight Johannes “Tito” Mwetupunga (7-3, 4 KOs) captured the vacant Australian 160 pound championship when he stopped Jason Hartman (8-3, 5 KOs) in three rounds at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Mwetupunga was down in round two but came back to force a stoppage at 54 seconds of the third stanza. Mwetupunga is based in Melbourne, Victoria.
Tyrone Tongia (15-2, 7 KOs) edged Andrew Godsen (6-5-1, 4 KOs) over ten rounds to win the vacant Australian junior middleweight title by a majority decision. Scores: 96-95, 95-95, 98-93. Tongia was born in Papua New Guinea and is managed by Angelo Di Carlo.
Light heavyweight Philip Maley (4-1, 3 KOs) won the Queensland state title when he clearly outscored Mark Flanagan over eight rounds. Scores: 79-72, 79-73, 77-74.
Super middleweight Omar Shaicck (6-0, 5 KOs) scored a second round stoppage over Damien James (2-8-2) in a scheduled four round bout.
Lightweight Brent Elliott (1-2-2) won a four round decision over Jerry Spandis (2-8-2).
Junior welterweight Brett William Smith (6-0, 4 KOs) stopped Damien Eales (0-5) at 1:42 of round two.
