WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez of Argentina (31-0-2, 19 KOs) dominated fellow countryman Santiago Ivan Acosta (16-5-2, 7 KOs) en route to a 10 round unanimous decision. The official scores by the judges were 100-92, 100-91.5, 100-91. The bout was fought above the flyweight limit and was a non title defense for Narvaez. The site was the Estadio Socios Fundadores, Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, Argentina with Osvaldo Rivero promoting.
It was the first bout for Narvaez in nearly 8 months but you could not tell this by the brilliant performance that he put on. Narvaez clearly won the first three rounds by simply outworking and outlanding Acosta but he went into a totally different gear from rounds 4 through 10. In these rounds Narvaez constantly punished Acosta with several 4 to 5 punch bursts per round. The punches ranged from straight lefts to the head and body, uppercuts, and sweeping right hooks.
Narvaez simply did not slow down at all showing remarkable accuracy with his connects and superb conditioning. His defense was excellent as well as he was right in front of Acosta all night but easily made him miss with subtle but effective head movements. Acosta to his credit showed a good chin as he withstood the punishment and fired back all night but simply couldn’t hit the target with any consistencey.
Narvaez is likely to face his mandatory challenger Jesus Jimenez of Mexico in his next fight.
