Xolisani Ndongeni won his second South African title when he outpointed Thompson Mokwana over 12 rounds to claim the SA lightweight crown at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre near East London on Sunday. The 23-year-old Ndongeni who previously held the South African junior lightweight title was having his first fight in the lightweight division. Despite the scores of 119-109, 119-108 and 118-108 in favour of Ndongeni it was a closely contested fight throughout the first eleven rounds before Mokwana, 28, took a count in the last round. The longer reach of the younger Ndongeni proved too much for the defending champion as he upped his record to 12-0, 6 KOs. Mokwana, 28, saw his record drop to 20-9-1, 12 KOs.
