New foe for Ishe Smith

By Flattop

Chris Gray – who lost a decision to Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara this past Saturday on the undercard of Manny Pacquaio vs. Ricky Hatton megafight – is replacing Brian Mihtar as the opponent for Ishe Smith in the main event of Friday’s Guilty Boxing’s “Punchout at the Plaza” event at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. Mihtar withdrew from the card earlier this week complaining of dehydration.

Guilty Boxing’s matchmaker “Big” Jeff Grmoja stated: “I am glad to find an opponent for Smith at the last minute. Gray was outclassed by Lara but Lara has around 300 amateur fights. Lara would beat most of the top ten jr middleweights today and Chris Gray went the distance with him. Gray is in good shape having fought last week and he showed good defensive skills against Lara. He will give Ishe a good fight!” Several more bouts featuring top talent from the gyms of Vegas will be featured. The doors open at 6pm and the first bout is at 7 pm. Tickets are still available at the box office.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
