New foe for Mike Jones!

Hard-hitting Dairo Esalas, a Colombian welterweight living in Miami, FL, replaces the injured Larry Mosley against unbeaten prospect Mike Jones in the scheduled 10-round main event Friday evening, March 6, at the Legendary Blue Horizon, 1314 North Broad Street. Mosley, 29, injured his back sparring Saturday in Los Angeles and will need several weeks to recover. Esalas, 35, who had been training in Miami, jumped at the chance when contacted Sunday evening.

Jones, 25, of North Philadelphia, was set to make the first defense of his North American Boxing Association (NABA) welterweight title against Mosley. Now Esalas gets the chance.

A pro since 1994, Esalas has a 31-15 record with 25 knockouts, though his two biggest wins both came by decision. He out-pointed slick southpaw Terrance Cauthen in the loser’s Trenton, NJ, backyard in 2004, and he earned a decision over former junior welterweight world-title challenger DeMarcus Corley, of Washington, DC, in 2007 in Tampa, FL.

Esalas has boxed some of the best, including ex-champs Randall Bailey and Steve Johnston, along with outstanding contenders Victor Ortiz, Jose Armando Santa Cruz, Francisco “Panchito” Bojado and Michel Rosales.

Jones, a pro since 2005, is rated No. 11 in the world by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 22 by the World Boxing Council (WBC). His 16-0 record includes 14 knockouts.

Jones’ sixth-round knockout last Aug. 29 over Juliano Ramos, a Brazilian living in Boca Raton, FL, earned him the vacant NABA 147-pound title.

The March 6 card represents a return to the Blue Horizon after eight years for Hall-of-Fame promoter J Russell Peltz, who began his career there as a 22-year-old in 1969. He is promoting this card, the first of six within a 12-month period at the Blue Horizon, with Joe Hand Promotions, Inc.

Tickets for the March 6 card are priced at $45 and $60. They are on sale at the offices of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc. (215-765-0922) and they also can be purchased online at www.peltzboxing.com.
