New foe named for unbeaten featherweight Gary Russell

Unbeaten featherweight Gary Russell Jr (18-0, 10 KOs) will now face veteran Heriberto Ruiz (48-11-2, 30 KOs) in the 10-round chief undercard support bout of this Saturday’s card at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Russell Jr. was originally scheduled to face Dat Ngyuen who was forced to withdraw after suffering a knee injury last week during training camp. In the main event, Cincinnati’s own undefeated and number one rated WBO junior lightweight contender Adrien “The Problem” Broner (21-0, 17 KOs) fights for the vacant WBO Junior Lightweight World Championship against Argentina’s number six rated WBO junior lightweight contender Martin Rodriguez (34-2-1, 18 KOs).

    Help Support Fightnews.com®

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
