New Mijares-Cermeño referee!

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Puerto Rican referee Luis Pabon will replace Panamanian referee Guillermo Perez Pineda in Saturday’s clash for the WBA interim bantamweight title between Venezuelan Nehomar Cermeño and the Mexican Cristian Mijares. The fight will take place in Torreon, Cohauila, Mexico and be promoted by by The business KO Entertainment. The Mijares camp protested to the WBA against the appointment Panamanian referee Pérez Pineda because Cermeño resides and trains in Panama and Pineda has been referee in four of Cermeño’s fights. Another change was also announced. Judge Raúl Caiz (California) was replaced by Peter Podgorsky (Illinois). The other judges will be Glenn Feldman (Connecticut) and Nelson Vázquez (Puerto Rico). The supervisor of the fight will be the WBA vice president Gilberto Mendoza Jr.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
