New opponent for McJoe Arroyo

Former Puerto Rican Olympian McJoe Arroyo (13-0, 7 KOs) will now face countrymen David Quijano (15-4-1, 9 KOs) in a bantamweight eight- rounder on the April 28 Golden Boy Live! show at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Arroyo was to have faced Dominican Eliezer Aquino (16-0-1, 10 KOs) in an IBF super flyweight eliminator, but Aquino pulled out with an injury. “Eliezer Aquino injured his right hand in a tune up fight he made on March 10 in the Dominican Republic and still hasn’t recovered,” said PR Best President Ivan Rivera. “We hope to make that elimination bout between Arroyo and Aquino in the Summer. We did not want McJoe wait and find David Quijano, who we know is a good foe.”

Eight fights have now been completed for the show where in the main event super lightweight Michael “The Artist” Perez (19-1-1, 10 KOs) will defend his WBA Fedelatin title for the first time against Mexican Jorge “Koky” Romero (24-7, 21 KOs) in a 10 round bout.

The undercard will have world featherweight ranked (WBC #3 and WBO #13) Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez (21-0, 15 KOs) against Miguel “Mikito” Soto (12-2, 12 KOs) in a featherweight brawl scheduled for 10 rounds.

In addition, prospect Prichard “Digget” Colon (8-0, 8 KOs) will fight for the fourth time in 2014 when he faces Javier Garcia (6-4-1, 2 KOs) in a junior middleweight eight round clash.

Undefeated John Karl Sosa (9-0, 6 KOs) will face Victor “Picu” Perez (3-1, 1 KOs) in a welterweight fight scheduled for six rounds.

In four round bouts, lightweight Jose Lopez (1-0, 1 KOs) will face Roberto Rivera (2-1, 1 KOs); in the junior featherweight division Joshua Declet (2-0-1) will face Edgardo Marin (0-1), and Rafael “El Pollo Blanco” Gonzalez (8-1, 6 KOs) will face an opponent to be determined in the lightweight division.

The card is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with PR Best Boxing Promotions to be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes. Tickets for the show are for sale on Ticketcenter, accessing or calling (787) 792-5000. Prices are $12 and $30.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
