Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev, currently rated #1 by the WBA, will now be trained Universum trainer Magomed Schaburow. Since 2003, “The White Tyson” had been trained by Michael Timm, who formed him into a world champion. “I’ve had a difficult time with my Achilles tendon injury, the cancellation of the fight of Helsinki and the defeat in Schalke,” stated Chagaev. “Now I’m looking for new impulses in training. I hope for that from Magomed Schaburow. I owe Michael Timm for the great teamwork. In football, a team change often helps a player progress further. I’m curious.”
Schaburow currently trains female double world champion Susi Kentikian as well as former super middleweight champion Denis Inkin. “This is very a very big challenge for me,” he commented. “Ruslan is only 30 years old. He still has many good years ahead at heavyweight. I’m looking forward to making this time with him as successful as possible.”
Timm stated, “I can understand that athletes sometimes like to change something to grow further. Now I’ll concentrate on my other boxers. I wish Ruslan all the best and we’ll still regularly see each other in the Universum-Gym.”
The next appearance in the ring for Chagaev is planned for the beginning of the new year.
