New WBF champ gets Presidential invite

While the World Boxing Federation (WBF) is considered a fringe boxing organization in many locations, that is not the case in the country of Bolivia. Winning the belt got newly crowned WBF female super bantamweight world champion Jennifer Salinas (15-3, 4 KOs) an invite to the presidential palace of Bolivian president Evo Morales, who praised Salinas for her great efforts and achievements.

Morales, who has been head of the Bolivian state since 2006, promised to support Salinas when she makes her first title defense. Salinas, the daughter of a Bolivian father and American mother who was born and lives in the U.S., is already a big fan favorite in Bolivia, despite fighting in Bolivia for the first time last weekend when she claimed the vacant WBF belt against Yolis Marrugo Franco (15-9-3, 7 KOs). 10,000+ spectators attended the fight at the Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera in Santa Cruz.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
