“Night of Future Champions” 7/31

Benefit for Saratoga Sponsor A Scholar

Saratoga Sponsor A Scholar, a non-profit organization that supports access to educational opportunities for students in the Saratoga School district, will join Pugnacious Promotions at its annual “Night of Future Champions” summer boxing event at the Saratoga Springs City Center on Friday, July 31st. The non-for-profit, charitable organization will participate in special events to benefit the foundation, including hosting an information/fundraising table at the event and receiving numerous promotional benefits.

Saratoga Sponsor A Scholar picks ten freshmen from the Saratoga Springs School district each year and dedicates $10,000 to each of them through high school and post-secondary education to assure that they have an equal opportunity to attend and succeed in college. All scholars must demonstrate strength in academics and character and a have proven need for financial assistance. The program is 100% funded by tax-free donations, including “Sponsors,” who donate $2,000 a year for five years, and contributions from the general public.

Lisa Elovich and Pugnacious Promotions include a non-profit partner at every professional boxing event to return something to the communities that support pro boxing events and help raise awareness about causes important to fans. Charity partners have included: the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Capital District Military Families, Backstretch Employees Service Team (BEST) and the Fighters Initiative for Support and Training (F.I.S.T.).

“I am so appreciative of the opportunity to work with Sponsor a Scholar Program on July 31st,” said Lisa Elovich, promoter of the event. “It is such a great way to give back and invest in the young people in Saratoga. I am honored to have them as part of the night’s events.”

The annual Pugnacious Promotions’ fight card showcases young boxing prospects during the first weekend of world-class thoroughbred racing at Saratoga Springs’ historic track. In the main event, New York State Heavyweight Champion Darrel Madison (13-1, 3 KOs), Central Islip, will defend his title against Newburgh’s Nagy Aguilera (13-1, 8 KOs). Guilderland lightweight prospect Mike Faragon (6-0, 2 KOs) challenges Puerto Rico’s Alberto Amaro (5-3, 2 KOs) in the co-feature. In other exciting fights, Troy heavyweight Shannon Miller (16-4, 9 KOs) faces Plainfield, NJ veteran Terrell Nelson (8-8, 5 KOs) and his brother Shawn Miller takes on Cleveland’s Zaid Malik (0-2) in his pro debut. Schenectady correction officer Brian Miller (3-0-3, 1 KO) battles Utica’s Manny Cotrich (1-3) and Plattsburgh featherweight Jaci Trivilino (0-1-1) looks for her first win against Cleveland pro debuter Trish Dedominico.
