Niño, Solis ready in Guadalajara

By Gabriel F. Cordero

At Thursday’s press conference, Mexican world champions Omar Niño and Jorge Solís declared themselves ready to defend their world crowns. Niño will defend his WBC jr flyweight crown against the Colombian Ronald “Indio” Barrera, while Solís will risk his WBA interim super featherweight title against Francisco “Volcano” Cordero.

The event HG Boxing/Zanfer Boxing event billed as “Regreso Glorioso” will take place in the Olympic Theater at Guadalajara University on Saturday. FOX Sports Espanol will televise in the USA.

“It is a pride to be able to be saying that we will present two world championship fights on the same night here in Guadalajara. It’s a thing that never had happened in the boxing history of Guadalajara and we want the people to know that is a true event,” said Garcia.

“I feel happy to to be fighting in my house,” said Niño. “I feel happy to be able to defend my title for the first time here and the unique thing that can say is that I will not disappoint my public. We’ll again wear that belt.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
