Official: Charlie Fitch will be third man in ring for huge Froch-Groves rematch on Saturday

By James Slater

The debate and the arguments over who will referee this Saturday’s huge Carl Froch-George Groves rematch have been settled: Macedon, NY’s Charlie Fitch will be the third man in the right at Wembley. Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this to Sky Sports News today. “There was another objection over the referee from Team Groves but the IBF made the decision last night that Charlie Fitch will referee the fight,” Hearn said. “The judges are now in place. No more dramas. Probably a few little mind games going back and forth but we’re all set, the fight’s on and we’re ready to go.”

Hearn wouldn’t accept original choice for referee in Jack Reiss and as Hearn said Team Groves did not want Fitch to land the job. This is all old news now though, and 44-year-old Fitch will work what is a massive and extremely important fight. Among the big fights Fitch has worked in the past are Miguel Cotto-Austin Trout and Miguel Vazquez-Marvin Quintero.

Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
