Below is the official statement of the WBA on the Barros-Caballero matter:
The Board of the World Boxing Association, chaired by Dr. Gilberto Mendoza, have not yet made any decision on the request for a rematch of the featherweight title fight between Argentinian Jonathan Barros and Panamanian Celestino Caballero.
The WBA wishes to express that the final decision will be informed in due course and that it will be as objective as possible, seeking to maintain the good name of those involved.
During this time there have been some rumors and speculations that have been done in an irresponsible manner that say the World Boxing Association has the power to freely accept, reject, or announce any decision regarding any topic.
Under no circumstances or for any reason will the WBA accept pressure to rule in favor of a boxer, whatever his nationality and we are adamant about objectivity and neutrality when making a decision.
The Committee engaged in the evaluation is composed of trained people, as are all members of the WBA.
We appreciate that our work is respected as a free entity which continues to give its best for world boxing.
