Oliveira stops Hernandez in two

By Robert Coster

“I’m on my way back,” said Brazilian jr Middleweight Michael Oliveira (18-1, 12 KO0s) after stopping Dominican veteran Alex Hernandez in two rounds Saturday night in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was Oliveira’s first fight since losing (by TKO in 9) to fellow Brazilian and two-division world champion Acelino Freitas. Remembering the Freitas debacle, the 22-year-old Oliveira stated, “It was my night to lose that night against Freitas but the main thing is to correct your mistakes and persevere.” Father Carlos Oliveira, Michael’s manager, had this to add: “The Freitas fight is behind us. Michael will fight next for a regional title against an opponent to be anounced.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
