Experienced Panamanian boxing leader, Jose Oliver Gomez, returns to the prestigious Panamanian Boxing Commission (COMIBOX) as new Panama Boxing Commissioner, after 21 years of an impeccable international career inside the sport of boxing. Gomez was appointed due to his outstanding work throughout the years, benefiting Panama’s boxing and international boxing as well. The General Director of the Panamanian Sports Bureau (Pandeportes), Javier Tejeira, confirmed Gomez’ designation. Recently, Jose Oliver Gomez served as president of the World Boxing Association ratings committee, a global position which he served with distinction for more than ten years.
An alumnus of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Jose Oliver Gomez has a proven wide understanding of the sport of boxing and he is considerably connected to boxing influence players worldwide. Gomez began his relationship with boxing as a manager/promoter, later serving as a boxing supervisor, commissioner, and successful director during his time at the WBA.
Along with Mr. Gomez’ designation, Republic of Panama Senator, Edwin Zúñiga, was also appointed to the aforesaid boxing commission.
According to an official press release, Pandeportes General Director, Javier Tejeira, is confident that with these two designations, boxing in Panama will have two highly capable directors, who would lead the COMIBOX to a better future for Panamanian boxing in general, and especially for all Panamanian boxers.
