Omar Sheika returns to the ring tonight
By Flattop
Former title challenger Omar Sheika is back in action tonight as he goes toe-to-toe with durable Charles Hayward in the main event of “Saturday Night Fights at the Hamilton Manor” in Hamilton, NJ. Also in action is exciting undefeated super middleweight Derrick “Take it to the Bank” Webster (11-0, 6 KOs) facing upset-minded Brian Bernard (10-10-2, 6 KOs).
The fan favorite Sheika (30-11, 21 KOs) has challenged for world super middleweight titles on three occasions going the distance with then-champions Eric Lucas (Sept 2002), Jeff Lacy (Dec 2004) and Markus Beyer (Sept 2005).
Now campaigning as a light heavyweight and still relatively young at 34 years old, the fighter is gunning for another title opportunity.
“He has a new trainer and he is in excellent shape,” said Nedal Abuhumoud, the promoter of Sheika. “He is 100%!”
Abuhumoud is so confident of Sheika that he has the fighter scheduled for a February 24th card at Harrah’s Casino in Chester, PA.
Hayward’s record (7-3, 3 KOs) may not compare with the “Who’s Who’s” resume of champions and contenders that Sheika has fought but Hayward is a natural light heavyweight and he has never been stopped.
Even Abuhumoud admitted, “Charles Hayward comes to fight!”
The 6′ 4″ southpaw Webster is a fighter that Abuhumoud has on the fast track.
“Webster contacted me last year, because he could not find any fights,” said Abuhumoud. “I got him six fights last year and I want to keep him that busy this year. He is a tough kid and I hope to have him fight for a regional title this year and a world title soon afterwards.”
The undercard is the proverbial “You can throw the records out!” featuring a mixture of fighters looking to make a name and fighters hoping to make a living in the ring.
“I only want fighters on my card that come to fight,” declared Abuhumoud. “Records don’t matter. Styles make fights but the fighter must want to fight and I match my cards with fighters that I know will fight!”
A good example is cruiserweight Ramadan Yasser (6-0, 5 KOs) going against the battle hardened William Santiago (6-6-1, 2 KOs). Yasser – from Egypt but now fighting out of New York City – is undefeated but Santiago has fought the better competition although in a losing effort.
Another solid matchup is a pair of southpaws showcasing slick boxer-puncher Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez Jr. (7-0, 3 KOs) versus hardcore Carlos Ramos (3-3, 2 KOs).
Four more bouts are also scheduled.
“Saturday Night Fights At The Hamilton Manor” is presented by Nedal Abuhumoud of Nedal Promotions. Doors open at 6:30p and the first bell is at 7:30p. Tickets are range are $40, $60 or $75 and are still available at the box office or call 609-396-3005 or 609-227-6959.
