Only in Boxing!

By Greg Sirb

I’ve been Executive Director with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission for over 20 years now – I really have seen it all, but this past Friday at the Blue Horizon I witnessed history. I witnessed truly an international event. Boxer Ahmad Tuba, a Palestinian from Nazareth, Israel made his pro debut against a young man from Baltimore, Maryland. What made this a historic event was that that the trainer in Tuba’s corner (Raanan Tal) is a Jew from Israel. At a time when the Jewish community and the Palestinian community have fought horrific battles and have seen blood shed on both sides, it was pro boxing at the Blue Horizon that brought these two supposed arch enemies together. At a time when boxing is looking for and needs a positive story, this was truly that story. A Palestinian and a Jew brought together in my ring at the Blue Horizon. I was again proud to say that boxing is in my blood.

    Help Support Fightnews.com®

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
