Promoter Golden Gloves have announced that South Africa’s Tommy Oosthuizen will be making the sixth defense of his IBO super middleweight belt against Colombian Fulgencio Zuniga at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park on November 10. This was will be on the same bill as the final of the Super 8 cruiserweight competition between Danie Venter and Thabiso Mchunu.
The 35-year-old Zuniga, who has a record of 25-5-1, 22 KOs, has challenged for the IBF belt on two occasions. In March 2009 he was stopped in the fourth round by Lucien Bute for the super middleweight title and in December 2010 he lost on points against Tavoris Cloud for the light heavyweight title. He has only had one fight since the loss to Cloud and that was in July this year when he stopped Alejandro Berrio in seven.
In his most recent fight in August this year Oosthuizen (20-0-1, 13 KOs) beat Rowland Bryant.
Venter and Mchunu will also be fighting for the vacant African Boxing Union cruiserweight title.
Also on the bill will be Gideon Buthelezi against Filipino Edrin Dapudong for the IBO junior bantamweight belt and Ryno Liebenberg defends his IBO All Africa light heavyweight title against Donald Kampamba.
