WBO #12 middleweight Gennady Martirosian (16-1, 6 KOs) will not be fighting WBO #6 Aaron Mitchell on April 24 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Mitchell had experienced visa issues and was forced to withdraw from the fight. “Unfortunately, Aaron became the second straight opponent who failed to collide with Gennady. However, we have been able to find a suitable substitution for Mitchell just in time for this bout not to be cancelled,” commented Jab Promotions’ vice-president Alexander Yagupov. Enter Croatian veteran Vedran Akrap (12-6, 6 KOs). In his last fight in December 2008, Akrap lost via eleventh-round TKO to hot Swiss prospect Yves Studer but before that he stopped former fringe contender Alexey Chirkov in five rounds. In his next outing, Chirkov faced Martirosian and lost him via third-round TKO in a brutal back-and-forth brawl, which has been name Russian best fight of 2008. Martirosian vs Akrap is scheduled for eleven rounds. Gennady’s PABA title will be at stake. Also, it has been confirmed that Finnish welterweight Jussi Koivula will not face local prospect Sherali Mamadaliev as it has been reported earlier. Instead 4-0 (with 2 KOs) Mamadaliev is pre-scheduled to clash against professional loser Abdumanon Kurbonov (0-7).
