By Karl Freitag spoke to former world title challenger Orlando “El Fenomeno” Cruz (20-3-1, 10 KOs) shortly after his arrival in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday night. Cruz, who is coming off a loss in a world title challenge against then-WBO world champion Orlando Salido last October, has a chance to get back into title contention if he can defeat WBO #6 rated Gamalier Rodriguez (23-2-3, 16 KOs) on Saturday night at the Bahia Shrine Temple in Orlando, Florida.

“It’s a big opportunity in my life,” Cruz told “Gamalier Rodriguez is a Puerto Rican guy, he’s a good boxer, but Orlando Cruz is back!

“I’m more hungry, more dedicated, more focused for my victory,” he continued. “I’m very happy for this opportunity. I thank Top Rank, I thank All Star Boxing. I’m very happy. This is my chance. This is my time right now!”

Cruz added that he feels his style matches up well against Rodriguez, who will be defending his NABO featherweight title. Cruz-Rodriguez will be televised on UniMas Network’s popular Solo Boxeo Tecate series.
