In main event action, a scheduled six round junior welterweight bout, Antonio Orozco (10-0, 7KO) blasted out the less than willing Hensley Strachan (5-9-1, 1KO). Orozco dropped Strachan to the canvas for the count with a left hook to the body and Strachan rose to one knee but watched the referee count him out without making any effort to rise to fight on. Strachan, a former Olympian representing his native Bahamas brought little to the table and was nothing more than a punching bag for the relentless San Diego native, Orozco.

In a much more entertaining undercard fight, a scheduled four round flyweight bout, Sindi Amador (3-0, 1KO) pursued and punished debuting Jessica Penne (0-1) for three and a half rounds before Penne’s corner finally threw in the towel to end the fight at 1:38 of the fourth and final round. Like a deer caught in the headlights, Penne’s concentration lapsed numerous times during the fight as she chose to watch herself on the jumbotron style big screen above rather than focus on avoiding the punches that Amador was still throwing at her. At the end, Penne was a bruised and bloody mess and her corner was wise to stop the fight.

A scheduled four round lightweight bout featured local Paul Velarde (3-1-3) taking on Paul Green (2-2). In a good action bout, Velarde was the clear cut victor and knocked Green to the canvas in the second round en route to a unanimous decision victory. Scores for the bout were 39-36, 39-36 and 38-37.

The opening bout of the evening, a scheduled four round lightweight attraction, featured debuting Edgar Sanchez (0-1) meeting Ricardo Garcia (2-1). In a back and forth battle that saw Sanchez get off to a good start, Garcia was able to pull away in the last two rounds to secure a majority decision victory by scores of 39-37, 39-37 and 38-38.

A packed house sellout crowd of 1,412 fans took in the action.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
