Like clockwork, Mayen Promotions with its namesake Guillermo Mayen, return to what has become the hottest boxing plaza in Mexico, Tijuana, Baja California, this Wednesday night at now the new home for border town club fights, Las Pulgas nightclub. The night will mark the return of popular local super bantamweight Edivaldo “Indio” Ortega (15-0-1, 7KOs) who will put his undefeated record on the line against Mexicali, Mexico’s Jose Guadalupe Tapia (7-6, 3KOs) in the ten round main event.

Ortega has been on a nice streak since stepping up slightly in competition by defeating the much more experienced Enrique Quevedo and the tough Francisco Piña in his last two fights. With the win over Piña, the southpaw Ortega captured the Baja California state 122 lbs. belt. Tapia has won four out of his last five with two inside the distance.

Featured on the multi-bout fight card, light welterweight Antonio Arellano (6-0-1, 2KOs) of San Ysidro, CA, will fight the hard hitting Jesus “Bombardero” Valadez (6-1, 3KOs) of Tijuana in a cross border face off which will not go the distance. Antonio’s brother, Israel Arellano (5-0, 4KOs), also a light welterweight, will face a tough test in Ensenada’s Ezequiel Avilez (5-1-1, 3KOs).

Flyweight Hector Flores (1-0, 1KO) of Erik Morales’ Box Latino gym will also see action in a four rounder.

Four more fights flesh out the card.

Las Pulgas night club is located on the legendary Revolution Avenue in the heart of Tijuana, Mexico. Tickets range from $5-$20 dlls and can be purchased at the box office. Doors open at 7:00pm with the first punch thrown at 8pm.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
