WBC silver super lightweight titleholder Roberto “Massa” Ortiz (24-0-1, 20 KOs) was nearly finished in the twelfth round by Javier Prieto (16-7, 11 KOs), but managed to survive until the final bell to retain his belt by split decision on Thursday night at the at the Expo Bancomer de Santa Fe in Mexico City. Scores were 115-113, 115-112 for Ortiz, 115-113 for Prieto.
Unbeaten bantamweight Tomoki Kameda (23-0, 15 KOs), from the famous Kameda boxing clan, won the WBC silver belt when previously unbeaten Jairo Hernandez (8-1, 4 KOs) didn’t come out for round eleven.
Former world champion Juan Urango (23-3-1, 17 KOs) returned from a two-year layoff to score a second round KO over Cristian “El Yaqui” Chavez (24-19, 12 KOs) in a welterweight bout.
