Quotes from Wednesday’s media workout at the Fortune Gym in Hollywood, CA

Victor Ortiz: “I know that he’s (Josesito Lopez) a good fighter. A decent fighter. Good for him that he’s motivated. I have no ring rust because I’ve been in the gym for the last six-seven months.”

With regards to Ortiz fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th, Ortiz responded, “I actually don’t care what people think. Right now, I’m like ‘Canelo who?’ My only focus is on Lopez. After Saturday night, then I could focus on Canelo.”

Josesito Lopez: “He’s (Victor Ortiz) the best fighter that I would have fought so far in my career. I definitely feel that I have the power to surprise him.”

Humberto Soto: “This is going to be another hard fight, just like the other fights I have fought. I’m the type of fighter that doesn’t allow my actions to be decided by the judges. I will do my best to get the knockout, but at the least, I know that I will win a clear decision.”

Reflecting on having fought almost 70 professional fights, Soto said, “I will continue fighting until my body doesn’t give anymore. However, my body still has a lot to give.”

Lucas Matthysse: “The judges saw things in my two defeats (to Zab Judah and Davon Alexander). However, I gained a great deal of experience. I know that he’s (Soto) a good fighter, but I’ve prepared myself to win on Saturday.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
