Former WBA featherweight Chris John met his former foe, Osamu Sato, the former WBA super featherweight at Suidobashi Gloves Boxing Bar, Tokyo, June 22, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their stunning match at Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, June 4, 2004. At that time John defeated the handsome champion Sato, who is now a popular TV star in Japan. Chris John himself is now also a TV commercial star and a business man in Indonesia during his retirement from the square ring following to his loss from South Africa’s Simpewe Vetyeka on December 2013.
Another of John’s former foes, Shoji Kimura, also attended the reunion. John defeated Kimura by unanimous decision in 2012 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore retaining his WBA featherweight belt. Respected boxing writer Makoto Okaniwa initiated and hosted this happy reunion which was also attended by several former champions from Japan, boxing writers and more than 30 hard core boxing fans in Tokyo. Chris John came to Tokyo with his wife and 2 daughters.
