Palacios a no-show at weigh-in

Former WBA/WBC interim miniumweight champion Juan Palacios did not attend the official weigh-in at the Nicaraguan Sports Institute on Friday for his scheduled bout tonight against Panamanian Carlos “Shanghai” Melo, forcing promoter Prodesa to cancel the main event for tonight’s show in the Alexis Arguello Gym in Managua. This is the second consecutive time that Palacios has failed to make weight after losing his WBA belt on the scale in August. Although Palacios had moved up to the jr flyweight division, one source indicated he was may have been near 114 lbs. on Friday, far exceeding the 109lb contract weight.
