Pascal-Hopkins set for Dec. 18

By Dave Spencer / Fightnews Canada

“It looks like quite a Christmas present for boxing fans,” said promoter Yvon Michel of the impending December 18 fight between undisputed light-heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and future Hall-of Famer Bernard Hopkins. “We have an agreement in principle and I’m just awaiting the paper work to finalize,” said Pascal’s promoter who saw his fighter rise to the top of the division with an impressive win over Chad Dawson on August 14 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The fight is penciled in for Quebec City but not yet finalized. “Jean could have sat back and waited for the spring and we would have been happy with his decision,” said Michel of his fighter who is wasting no time in getting back into the ring. He worked really really hard in preparing for Dawson and he certainly was entitled to some time off, but he was eager to get back in there and face a fighter like Hopkins. He wants to fight the best there is in the division and Hopkins and Dawson were the only name he was considering.”
