After landing in Puerto Rico on Monday night, two world champion Gerry “Fearless” Penalosa held a media workout today at the Wilfredo Gomez Gym in Guaynabo, as he puts on the final touches to his preparations for this Saturday Championship fight against local idol Juan Manuel Lopez. “I have trained very hard for this fight, because I know how hard this fight is going to be. Lopez is a great champion and I will have to be at my best to defeat him and I will be at my best on Saturday,” said Penalosa a former WBC 112 pound champion and the current WBO bantamweight king.
Lopez will defend his WBO Jr. Featherweight crown against Penalosa on Saturday, April 25 at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseo in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on a card promoted by Top Rank and PR Best Boxing Promotions and HBO will televise the fight during “Boxing After Dark”.
Penalosa trained for about an hour and half under the watchful eye of his brothers, Jonathan and Carlos Penalosa as well as his manager Billy Keane.
“I really like this fight against Lopez, it’s good for my style and it should be a war. I going in to win round by round and I have to stay focused at all times,” said Penalosa.
In the co-main event Lamont Peterson (26-0, 12 KOs) of Washington D.C. and Willi Blain (20-0, 3 KOs) of France will battle for the WBO Interim Jr Welterweight title.
Tomorrow will be the final press conference at noon at the hotel El San Juan in Isla Verde in the Tropicoro room.
The weight in will be on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Teatro Braulio Castillo next to the Bayamon City Hall.
