Pendarvis demolishes Quinones!

By Francisco Salazar at ringside

Junior Welterweight Cleotis Pendarvis scored a major upset in stopping former contender Steve Quinones in the first round of a scheduled eight round bout at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, CA. Quinones (31-14-1, 10 KOs) dropped his hands after being spun around and was dropped when the southpaw Pendarvis (10-1-2, 3 KOs) landed a counter right hook to the head. Quinones got up on shaky legs, but Pendarvis swarmed all over him, hurting him again until referee Raul Caiz, Jr. stepped in and stopped the bout at 2:07. With the victory, Pendarvis claimed the California State Junior Welterweight title.

Super Welterweight Max Skayzer (6-0-1, 1 KO) remained unbeaten with a hard-fought six round unanimous decision over Bhakari Gates. Both traded heavy shots in the middle of the ring. However, Skayzer’s punches began to wear down his opponent as Gates began to slow down. Gates (2-6)found a second wind in the final round and connected with hard shots, but his rally fell short. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Skayzer, with scored of 59-55, 59-55, and 60-54.

Lightweight Stan Martyniouk (6-0, 1 KO) also remained unbeaten with a six round unanimous decision over Jovann Jones (9-5, 4 KOs). The quicker Jones began the bout strong as he utilized his speed to overwhelm Martyniouk. However, Martyniouk would go to the body with hard left hooks that began to slow Jones down. Martyniouk finished strong as he dropped Jones once in the fifth and again in the sixth round. All three judges scored the bout 60-52, 59-53, and 58-54 in favor of Martyniouk.
