Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KOs) won the WBA interim super lightweight title on Saturday night by dethroning reigning titleholder Johan Perez (15-1-1, 12 KOs) via seventh round technical decision at the Oasis Hotel in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Until the sudden end the fight was very exciting and both fighters were cut and busted up. A headbutt by Perez caused Cano to bleed profusely and prompted referee Luis Pabon to stopped the fight and sent it to the scorecards. Scores were 68-65, 68-65 for Cano and 67-67.
Lightweight Jorge Romero (23-5, 20 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over former world champion Rudy Lopez (25-6-2, 16 KOs). Lopez was down in rounds three and four.
In an upset, Denver jr welterweight Manuel Perez (18-7-1, 4 KOs) won a ten round split decision over Jose Cotto (33-4-1, 24 KOs). Scores were 96-94, 96-94 for Perez, 96-95 for Cotto.
