Perez-Mamadjonov Undercard

By Francisco Salazar first reported last week that Bahodir Mamadjonov was the fighter chosen to replace Michael Katsidis on August 10th at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, CA. Mamadjonov will face hard-hitting Colombian Darley Perez in a battle of unbeaten lightweights in a 10 round bout that will headline ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” card. Gary Shaw Productions matchmaker John Beninati informed on Friday night of the rest of the undercard that will take place that evening. In the other televised bout, super bantamweight Chris Avalos will fight unbeaten Yenifel Vicente in a scheduled eight rounder.

Avalos (19-2, 15 KOs), from Lancaster, CA, lost a disputed 10 round split-decision to Jhonatan Romero on December 2nd. The loss snapped a three-bout winning streak by Avalos. He has won three regional title belts in two weight divisions.

The Dominican-born Vicente (23-0-2 1NC, 15 KOs), who now reside in Miami, FL, stopped Carlos Rivas in the third round on May 26th in Managua, Nicaragua. Vicente’s most notable victories were a 10 round split-decision over Francisco Lorenzo in November of 2009 and a second round knockout over fringe contender Hector Julio Avila in September of 2010.

Beninati also stated two prospects would clash in a scheduled eight round middleweight bout, as unbeaten Tureano Johnson will face once-beaten DonYil Livingston. The bout was originally scheduled to take place this past Friday at the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, CA. However, Livingston needed more to time to prepare, so the bout was moved to August 10th.

Johnson (10-0, 7 KOs) still fought on the card, knocking out late-replacement Arturo Rodriguez in the first round.

In his last bout on March 31st, Livingston (8-1-1, 4 KOs) lost a six round split decision to Elie Augustama in Woodland Hills, CA. Livingston resides in Palmdale, CA.

Also scheduled to appear on the card will be unbeaten lightweight Alejandro Luna of Bellflower, CA.

Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa box office or by calling (951) 849-3080.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
