Manny ‘Manos’ Perez (19-8-1, 4KOs) will be facing Vernon ‘Iceman’ Paris (27-1, 16KOs) in the main event of the ESPN Friday Night Fights on May 10th at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan.
Perez had a very good run in 2012 besting Edgar Santana for the NABA light welterweight title and defending it successfully against Jose Miguel Cotto. He then traveled to Belfast, Ireland to take on Paul McCloskey in a WBA eliminator bout. He dropped a decision to McCloskey and came home to ‘right the ship’ against Bernardo Guereca, winning a seven round decision. He was scheduled to fight Pablo Cesar Cano in Cancun, Mexico before Cano fell ill, the week of the fight, and promptly signed to fight Shane Mosley.
Paris lost his first fight as a professional in March of 2012, a 9th round TKO at the hands of Zab Judah in an IBF eliminator. He didn’t fight again in 2012 but won his comeback bout in March, a 3rd round TKO win over perennial opponent Guy Packer.
