Filipino light flyweight Randy Petalcorin (22-1-1, 17 KOs) scored a seventh round KO over Panamanian Walter Tello (20-8, 8 KOs) to claim the WBA interim light flyweight title on Tuesday night at the Mercedes Benz Arena, Shanghai. Petalcorin dominated the fight and dropped Tello twice in the seventh to end it. The Australia Combat Sports Unit registered boxer and Australia top rated Petalcorin won every round on the scorecards.
“Randy stepped up tonight to KO Tello in seven rounds and he has the talent and ability to be the premier boxer in the light flyweight division,” said Manager Peter Maniatis.
Manny Pacquiao was ringside for the Top Rank-promoted card along with Freddie Roach and Bob Arum and everyone agreed that a new star is born for world boxing with the 22-year-old Petalcorin, who could make his first defense on the Pacquiao-Algieri undercard in Macau come November.
