IBF jr welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KOs) thrilled his hometown following with an impressive eighth round TKO over former WBO jr welterweight titlist Kendall “Rated R” Holt (28-6, 16 KOs) on Friday night at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. Peterson dropped Holt with a right hand in round four. Holt went to a knee after a barrage of punches by Peterson in round six. The fight was finally stopped by referee Tony Weeks after another barrage by Peterson at 1:42 of round eight. It was Peterson’s first fight in 14 months after failing a drug test that resulted in a forfeiture of the WBA version of the belt.
In a battle of undefeated jr featherweights, Roman Morales (15-0, 8 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Jesus Hernandez (10-1-3, 2 KOs). Morales dropped Hernandez at the end of round four. A body shot by Morales put Hernandez down for the count in the following round. Time was 2:59.
