Mark Wahlberg, Micky Ward and producer, David O. Russell, stepped out Wednesday night for a private showing of Mark’s latest movie, “The Fighter,” at the Patriot Cinemas in the Hingham Shipyard. Wahlberg plays “Irish” Mickey Ward, a boxer whose half-brother (Christian Bale) helps to train him before he goes pro in the mid-1980s. Amy Adams co-stars as Ward’s love interest in the film, which is directed by David O. Russell (Paramount).

In other Micky Ward news, the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (CSTE) at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) announced today that Ward has pledged to donate his brain after his death to the CSTE Brain Donation Registry and will participate in CSTE longitudinal research.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
