Jr middleweight José “Barretas” Pinzón (17-1-1, 12 KOs) avenged his only loss with an eighth round KO of Jaime “Indio” Barboza (17-4, 7 KOs) on Saturday night at the Poliforum Zamna in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Pinzón dropped Barboza twice in round eight and the bout was waved off at the 1:58 mark.
Barboza stopped Pinzon in seven round in May in a clash for the vacant WBC Youth jr middleweight title, but Pinzon took the belt for himself as well as evening the score.
In the co-feature, flyweight Juan “Loquito” Kantún (17-1-2, 14 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Eddy Zúñiga (7-4-1, 1 KO).
In another bout, flyweight Alonso López (8-0, 3 KOs), son of “Finito,” won by unanimous four round decision over Javier “Pony” Roman.
