Piper keeps Aussie 168 belt!

Australian super middleweight champion Les “Diamond” Piper (9-2-3, 2 KOs) defended the title successfully when his bout with Israel “Cobra” Kani (9-2-2, 4 KOs) was declared a draw after ten action packed rounds at the Caloundra RSL, Caloundra, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Piper, 25 years, boxed aggressively against taller, 36 years of age Kani in all contested rounds.

Piper won the title in November 2008 when he outpointed William Hadlow over ten rounds. Kani and Piper also boxed a draw in 2006. Kani scored a TKO5 over Kerrey Palmer in 2008 but lost to Robert Toomey over six.

Cruiserweight Andrew Gosden (4-3-1) stopped Terry Lambert (3-7) in round one.

Light heavyweight Phillip Maley (2-0) scored second round stoppage of Marion Toby (1-5).

In a upset cruiserweight Shane McConville(1-0-2) won a six round decision over more experienced James Chan (5-9-1).

Light welterweight Brett Smith (2-0) knocked out Frank Droulias (0-2) in three rounds.

Middleweight Chris Stewart (5-2) stopped rangy former amateur champion Brian Matchett (0-2) in four rounds.( Matchett is trained by former IBF lightweight champion Phillip Holiday who now lives in Australia).

Welterweight Paul Bryden (2-4) won a four round decision over Mhelvin Hernandez (1-6).

Cathy Jones (1-1) won three round decision over Katrina Ripley (1-1)
