Former world title challenger Antonio Pitalua (48-4, 42 KOs) scored an impressive fifth round TKO over veteran Wilfredo “Papin” Negron (26-12-1, 19 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO Latin welterweight title on Saturday night at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida. Pitalua dominated from the get-go and got a referee’s stoppage at the 2:09 mark of the fifth. In the co-feature, former world title challenger Joel “Love Child” Julio (35-3, 31 KOs) pounded out a six round unanimous decision over Clarence “Sonny Bono” Taylor (14-23-4, 7 KOs) in a middleweight clash. Scores were 60-54, 60-54, 59-55.
