Filipino flyweight Ryan Rey Ponteras (11-8-1, 5 KOs) scored a major upset when he stopped IBF #6 Rusalee Samor (19-4-2, 8 KOs) in four rounds of a scheduled twelve round bout at Rajapark Institute, Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday. Ponteras was in control from round one as he connected with solid combinations and dropped Samor in round two and again in round four with referee Yongsak Na Songkla crowning the visitor at 2:39. Promoter Jimmy Chaichotchuang said, “Congratulations to Ryan Rey Ponteras in capturing the IBF Pan Pacific title by defeating Rusalee Samor. It was a very impressive performance. I would like to thank Manny Pinol, the governor of Cobotado – who attended the promotion.”

In the main supporting contest Beijing 2008 super flyweight Olympian Amnat Ruenroeng (7-0,3KO’s) was impressive in stopping Geboi Mansalayao ( 8-13-4, 3KO’s) in round seven of a scheduled ten round bout. Ruenroeng took the Filipino to school from round one and in round seven the referee saved Mansalayao from further punishment. Ruenroeng seems destined for international honours. Chaichotchuang said, “Ruenroeng was a great amateur boxer who defeated many of the best super flyweights around the world and I plan to give him the opportunity to win world IBF title within two years.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
