Preview by Bill Green

Double R Boxing Productions presents HXT: Heartland Xtreme Throw down! Live Pro boxing, August 18th, 2012 at the Platte Duetshe event center, located in Grand Island, Nebraska. The main event will feature Brandon “Pit-bull” Quintana 5-7 (4) vs. Chad Obermiller, in a scheduled eight-round lightweight contest.

Quintana, while fighting as an amateur, was an eight-time Nebraska champion, a five-time regional champion and a two-time national champion.

As a pro, Quintana fought on several major undercards including alongside known fighters such as former Middleweight title challenger, Ronald Hearns, Jr Welterweight prospect, Jesse Vargas, the late Johnny Tapia, WBC lightweight champion, Antonio Demarco, and former MMA/street brawler, Kimbo Slice.

Quintana has fought a total of 12 times as a pro, but he clearly enjoys fighting in Grand Island. Quintana boasts an impressive 3-0 record including all 3 wins coming by knockout in the Heartland area. Known as “Pit-bull” to most, the straight forward brawler from Kearney, Nebraska, plans to electrify the crowd with yet another early stoppage.

Quintana’s opponent, Chad Obermiller, of Hastings, Nebraska, is no slouch; in fact, he boasts an impressive fight resume as well. Most fight fans recognize Obermiller’s name via the MMA circuit as he displays a respected pro record of 8-5. As an amateur, Obermiller was undefeated at 7-0. Obermiller believes that his stand up game is one of his best fight attributes while maintaining that the transition to boxing will be any ease one, possibly even pulling off an upset over the favored Quintana.

The Co-main event will feature yet another member of the “fighting Quintana family” as Lincoln, Nebraska’s Aaron Quintana 5-0-1 (4) will tangle with Mike Glenn 2-3-2 (1), of Hutchinson, Kansas, in a scheduled 4 round Super-middleweight contest.

Quintana is undefeated in 6 pro bouts and was the runner up in the 2002 National Golden Gloves. Quintana has fought on the undercards of featured fighters and major events such as Oscar De La Hoya protégé, Sharif “The Lion” Bogere ,Vernon Forrest vs. Sergio Mora on Showtime, Former Welterweight Champion, Carlos Quintana, Former 2 x World Champion, Paul ” The Punisher” Williams, and Middleweight Champion, Sergio Martinez.

Meanwhile, Glenn is a durable and chin tested veteran of the sport and is said to be in tremendous shape for this fight.

Other Undercard bouts include:

Former National Jr Golden Glove champion, Emilio Hernandez, of Kearney, Nebraska, makes his pro debut against ‘tough guy”, Chris Hurt 0-2, of Kansas City, Missouri, in a 4 rd. Middleweight bout.

In a battle of pro debuts, Popular Hastings , Nebraska , MMA fighter will lace up the gloves and square off against former amateur boxing prospect, Omar “”Psycho” Pena, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Pena fights out of the famed Guadalupe Boxing Club, which has produced several pro fighters and top amateurs. Boxing journeyman fighters, Javier “El Bombitas” Conde 4-19 (4), of Mitchell, Nebraska and Sook Siyajuk 2-7-2 (2), of Kansas, Missouri, will mix it up in a scheduled 4 round Super Bantamweight contest. Conde went 6 rounds with current NABA jr Welterweight Champion, Manny Perez, and went toe to toe with Jorge Paez Jr both times coming up short on the win column but generating plenty of fans along the way.

Another 4 round super middleweight contest will round out the card as pro debuter, Mike George, of Hastings, Nebraska, faces Donald Eaton 0-1, of St Joseph, Missouri.
