Audley Harrison wins Prizefighter Heavyweights III

41-year-old Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KOs) may have resurrected his career by winning “Prizefighter Heavyweights III” on Saturday night at the historic York Hall in London. Harrison defeated New Yorker Derric Rossy (28-6, 14 KOs) in the final to claim his second Prizefighter trophy. Harrison dropped Rossy in round one and finished him in the second with a right hand. Time was 1:25.

Between the semifinal and final, 2012 British Olympian jr welterweight Thomas Starker (1-0) had a successful pro debut. Stalker won a four round unanimous decision (40-36) over no-hoper Kristian Laight (7-140-6, 0 KOs). Not a typo. 140 losses for Laight.

In a rematch, Audley Harrison (30-6, 22 KOs) avenged a 2008 loss to Martin Rogan (16-4, 8 KOs), taking a three round unanimous decision. Harrison simply outboxed Rogan to win by scores 30-27 on all cards.
Derric Rossy (28-5, 14 KOs) won his second split decision of the night against Ian Lewison (7-2-1, 4 KOs). Scored 29-28, 29-28 Rossy, 29-28 Lewison.

In a clash of American heavyweights, Derric Rossy (27-5, 14 KOs) won a sloppy three round split decision over pre-tournament favorite Travis Walker (39-9-1, 31 KOs). Scores were 29-28, 29-28 Rossy, 29-28 Walker.
Ian Lewison (7-1-1, 4 KOs) scored a first round TKO over Timo Hoffmann (40-8-2, 23 KOs). Lewis dropped Hoffmann with a left/right combination in round one and Hoffmann beat the count, however when John King motioned and told Hoffmann to step forward, Hoffmann who appeared to be OK to continue, but does’t speak English, remained in place and the bout was stopped at the 2:02 mark. Hoffmann wasn’t happy with the stoppage.
Former Prizefighter champion and Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison (29-6, 22 KOs) needed just 33 seconds to finish Dane Claus Bertino (15-5, 18 KOs). A single left hand did the job.
Former Prizefighter winner Martin Rogan (16-3, 8 KOs) scored a third round TKO over former heavyweight title challenger Albert Sosnowski (47-6-2, 28 KOs). Referee Ina John Lewis waved it off to protect a wobbly Sosnowski at 1:56. The Pole flew out of the ring after a missed punch in round two.

The “Prizefighter Heavyweights III” tournament will be televised in the USA by Wealth TV and on Thursday’s “Fight Night” telecast.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
