WBO jr. welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KOs) arrived from Moscow late Monday night in Los Angeles to begin preparations for his June 14 title defense that will be televised live on HBO against an opponent to be named. The name at the top of the Provodnikov camp’s short list is said to be Long Island contender Chris Algieri (19-0, 8 KOs), who is rated WBO #13.

Also on the telecast will be the first defense of WBO jr middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KOs) against WBO #1 rated Brian Rose (25-1-1, 7 KOs).

The card is expected to land in the New York area.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
