Lee Purdy blew his chance to become a world champion by failing to make the 147lb welterweight limit on Friday in Atlantic City. Purdy initially weighed in at 148, then was unable to lose the excess pound over the next two hours, eventually weighing in at 147.8. The fight between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander and Purdy will go on as scheduled, but as a non-title affair. If Alexander wins however, it will satisfy his mandatory obligation. Purdy was fined $15,000 (total purse is $150,000).
