IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib talks to Fightnews about his scheduled December bout in Madison Square Garden which was cancelled. He also discusses how he will defend the title against his mandatory challenger Mauricio Munoz of Argentina and says that he would be confident of defeating WBA champion Chris John.

Are you disappointed your December bout in Madison Square Garden on the Cotto v Trout card, where you would have had global exposure, was cancelled?

I was only disappointed about the reason it was cancelled.

Do you know the reason?

It was just strong boxing influences sabotaging my well-earned opportunity to showcase my skills.

Will your promoter 50 Cent have you box on another globally televised show soon?

50 has been in deep discussions with my brother Emaid and my Attorney Adam Houda about the future for Billy Dib. I can tell you that I’m excited about the plans they have for me.

Is your mandatory your next fight against Munoz. Have you seen tapes How good is he?

Munoz is a good fighter who has earned his shot at my title. He’s awkward and tricky. I’m going to need to be at my best to beat him that’s for sure.

Will this fight be held in Australia?

Not sure about the venue. But wherever it is held, it will be a night to remember as 50 Cent , has some great ideas about the promotion. The fans are in for a treat.

You have previously showed interest in challenging WBA champ Chris John. Are you still Interested? Did you see his recent defense of the title? Would you be confident of victory?

Chris John is a future Hall of Famer who is also undefeated. He’s beaten some great names including Juan Manuel Marquez. I’d give a leg to make that fight happen but I got the feeling he doesn’t want anything to do with me. My improvement under Billy Hussein has been out of sight and I genuinely believe that I’m the best featherweight out there right now.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
