Fightnews spoke to IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib who says he is expecting a tough fight on March 1st at the MGM Casino at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut against Cuban Olympian Luis Franco and is also confident he will defeat WBA champion Mikey Garcia if ever they fight. Also his promoter 50 CENT has big plans for Dib for a fight in Dubai.

Your IBF title defense against Luis Franco has been confirmed on March 1st. Have you seen the Cuban Olympian in action? How dangerous is he?

He’s dangerous. He’s earned his shot. People have to remember that when a challenger fights for a world title, that’s everything. Most times, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. That’s what type of challenger a champ faces every time. A hungry, determined and sometimes desperate opponent who is willing to do anything to win. In short, I will need to be at my absolute best to win.

Though Franco was outstanding amateur, he’s had only 12 professional fights.. You were also a top amateur boxer and are experienced as a professional having several fights in the USA. Will your experience make you a solid favorite?

Franco has a decorated amateur background. He is very experienced and seasoned. Experience will play a part but skills will be the difference. I believe my skills are just on another level to Franco.

Franco’s only loss was by split decision to Mauricio Munoz. One judge Fernando Murray had Franco winning by 118-110 but judges Al Wilensky had it 115-114 and Valerie Dorsett 115-113 for Munoz. Did you see the fight? Who won in your opinion?

Like many fight fans I believe Franco won the fight and now he has the opportunity to fight for my crown. Justice has been served.

Mikey Garcia captured the WBA 126 title with an impressive win over Orlando Salido. Is Garcia the most dangerous featherweight in the world? Can Billy Dib defeat Garcia?

Mikey is one of the better featherweights out there, no doubt. He’s good and heavy handed. But once again, I want to make it clear: I’m the best and most skillful featherweight on the planet. Happy to prove it every time I jump in the ring.

Your IBF defense on March 1st will be televised on ESPN. Will this fight be seen globally?

Your promoter 50 CENT is one of the world’s most powerful promoters. What are his future plans for Billy Dib?

50, together with my manager Emaid who is also my brother, and Lawyer Adam Houda are discussing some exciting opportunities to fight in Dubai. First things first, and that is to take care of business against Franco.

Who wins the IBF middleweight title bout Daniel Geale v Anthony Mundine on Jan 30?

I truly believe that the ultimate winner is Aussie boxing. Regardless of who wins the title stays put on our soil.

Is there anything you would like to tell your boxing fans on Fightnews?

I’m just happy for the U.S fans that they get to see what they have been missing out on for the last couple of years: the most exciting featherweight in the world: ME. LOL.
